Edenbrook announces Record Results for year ended 31st December 2005
72% increase in revenues to over £17m
London 11 April 2006
Edenbrook today announced its results for the year ended 31 December 2005. Highlights include:
- Revenues increased by 72% (60% organic) to over £17.0m (2004: 9.86m)
- Operating profits grew to £1.38m (2004: 0.32m) with profit before tax £1.33m (2004: 0.30m)
- Net cash balances increased to £1.25m (2004: 0.52m).
“2005 was a landmark year for the business. The investment in building a solid foundation enabled strong revenue and profit growth. The acquisition of Moliere in April enabled growth from a new Manchester base as well as from Edenbrook’s existing Central London headquarters,” said Steve Anderson, Director Edenbrook.
Edenbrook’s track record of building innovative IT solutions, its flexible engagement model, and the leveraging of its intellectual property has enabled it to compete successfully against global consulting firms at the premium end of the UK market. Over 70% of revenues came from its existing base of blue chip clients from the technology, media and telecoms, financial services and commercial sectors and it also engaged with 40 new clients during 2005. “ Edenbrook will continue to deliver strong, double-digit growth in 2006 from its loyal client base, increased penetration into its vertical markets and from the scalability offered by its industry specific solutions templates and tools,” continued Anderson.
BUPA awards £multi-million .NET development to Edenbrook
London 15 December 2005 – Edenbrook, one of the UK’s fastest growing, independent technology companies, today announces the signing of a 2 year contract with BUPA worth over £5M to develop new systems to support its membership business.
“ We chose Edenbrook because of its extensive experience of enterprise solution delivery. Their modern approach to development coupled with detailed technical and business understanding ensures we are able to achieve our challenging business and IT transformation timescales whilst ensuring a high quality system that meets the real needs of the business,” said John Lister, Chief Information Officer, BUPA.
Steve Anderson, Director of Edenbrook, commented, “I am excited about the opportunity to transform the systems landscape for BUPA. By assisting BUPA with the business change along with the design of a technology solution that encompasses enterprise best of breed Microsoft technologies we feel that BUPA will be able to recognise real benefits immediately and have a platform for the future.”
BUPA is a global health and care organisation with eight million members and over 40,000 employees in 180 countries. In the UK BUPA is the leading provider of private health care insurance, hospitals and health care services.
In 2004 BUPA embarked on the development of a new system to support its membership business in the UK. The business was supported by over 70 primarily mainframe-based systems which were expensive to maintain and difficult to change. Their challenge was to provide a modern, flexible, scaleable solution to support business growth, manage benefit spend and to provide a better service to members. They needed to be able to deliver new, flexible, affordable products to market more quickly. And to replace an ageing mainframe.
Following a successful project to re-engineer BUPA International’s systems to a Service Oriented Architecture using Microsoft’s .NET framework and an Oracle database, Edenbrook was engaged in December 2004 to complete an analysis of requirements for BUPA UK’s SME business. On successful completion of this work, Edenbrook has been awarded a contract for the delivery of the system for this part of the business and then to extend it to cover the whole of BUPA UK’s insurance and membership services.
Edenbrook is working closely with BUPA staff and other suppliers to deliver the core of the new systems in a programme team of over 120 staff with interfaces to finance, web, legacy and data warehouse systems in three phases running through to 2007.
The new systems have been architected to ensure common business functions can be re-used throughout the business using web services. These web services are consumed by BUPA’s customer facing web systems and will be combined to support configurable business processes.
The systems are accessible via the internet and have a rich user interface developed with Microsoft’s .NET Windows Forms. This style of Smart Client application allows users to access the system via low band-width connections, whilst providing self patching software and caching to ensure easy maintainability.
Through the use of an extensive BUPA specific framework, productivity tools (e.g. code generators), test driven development and continuous integration, Edenbrook has established an efficient development process allowing BUPA to extend and amend its core business application efficiently in the future.
